Scoring Summer Internships
Internships can be essential in developing future careers after college. Some of our very own Ottawa University students have scored amazing summer internships this summer. They have an opportunity to travel and get hands-on experience in their field of study.
Jordan Calderwood, junior, originally from Topeka, is going to Phoenix, Arizona, this summer. She is an exercise science major with a concentration in strength and conditioning. She will be interning at EXOS, an Athletic Performance company, and will be a Performance Nutrition Intern.
“I'm most excited to be working with professional athletes and learn how to put together their meal plans,” Calderwood said.
Calderwood is also on the Track and Field team and qualified for Nationals last December in the Marathon. She will be competing Memorial Day weekend in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and then will go from there straight to Arizona.
“I'm most nervous about getting there a week later than the other interns because I will be competing at Track and Field nationals,” Calderwood said.
Brandon Edwards, junior, originally from Olathe, is going to Sarasota, Florida, this summer. Edwards is a double major in Business Administration and Finance at Ottawa. He will be a Financial Planning Intern for Global Financial Private Capital.
As an intern he will be doing a lot of data entry as well as assisting around the office however they need him. He will also get to help go over client profiles while being supervised by a financial planner.
“Moving 21 hours away from home and living by myself for 12 weeks is what I am most nervous about,” Edwards said.
Edwards is also a tennis player at Ottawa and is eager about the opportunity to play tennis on the clay courts in Florida.
“I am most excited about the job experience that I will be getting and also being able to live really close to the beach and being able to play tennis on clay courts for the whole summer,” Edwards said.
