10 Reasons You Know You Go to OttawaU

Ottawa University students are unique simply because we all feel the same irreplaceable feeling when we think about our college experience.  Here are ten ways you know you go to Ottawa University in good ole Ottawa, Kansas.   

1. Wait, where? 

When students tell someone they go to Ottawa University, people say, “Oh, you mean you live in Canada?”  No, actually the school is in Kansas but close.  

2. I can’t, I have practice 

The majority of the school’s students are athletes.  Friends from other colleges do not understand the struggle of a practice schedule beyond high school when they’re making plans for Thursday night shenanigans. 

3. You can walk to class within three minutes  

Waking up at 8:55 am when class starts at 9:00 am? No big deal, just brush those teeth, put some sweats on and roll out. 

4.You’ll always run into someone you know 

Whether it’s a professor sighting at dollar margarita night at El Mezcal or walking to class and seeing a best friend or a worst enemy, they will always be prowling around the corner, in the Hull Center, or in the Library. 

5. Your lack of attendance points dropped your grade 

Because class sizes are small, extremely small, professors notice when one student has missed class more than three times.  Thus, dropping grades like flies.  

6. You see your professors and employers Saturday at the liquor store 

Because there are only three liquor stores to go to, there is bound to be someone important lurking around the liquor store. 

7. You do something reckless Saturday night? EVERY ONE already knows 

Over heard someone in the café Sunday morning talking about the “kid” who picked that stray cat up, brought into the house party and then lost it in the house?  Its’ fine, keep walking; it’ll turn up eventually. 

8. Once you’re an upperclassmen you have classes with the same ten people 

These ten students are on a first name basis with each professor because after four years of the same people, last names are too formal. 

9. I have to swipe again for seconds? 

Yes, having to swipe multiple times for seconds and the action station never being quite what you expected is not enjoyable.  Lets be real though, walking into the café to find it is either taco day, soup bowl day, chicken nuggets with mac n’ cheese day or the much anticipated burrito day, could just about turn anyone’s frown upside down.  Also, Milda is just about the sweetest person you have ever met.   

10. Despite all the routine conversations, people and classes you would not change your OttawaU experience for the world 

Without the close community of students and faculty, the abundance of sports teams, Sunday mornings in the café, and exciting campus events, the small town college experience just would not be the same.
