Homecoming week of Oct. 17 was filled with bingo night, an illusionist show, faculty/ staff chili cook-off, a donut run, pep rally, and even a football win! Along with everything else that went on the past week, Ottawa crowned Braves Royalty at the football game during the halftime show.
The Braves Royalty Winners of 2021 are Jack Wagner and Kaitlyn George.
Wagner, a senior on the Ottawa Men’s Basketball team who also represents his team with being a member of the SALT (Student Athletic Leadership Team), says he was all about “embracing every moment.”
“It was really cool being out there. Everyone looked nice all dressed up. I was running a couple of minutes late, I was still trying to put my rose on. I was unsure about winning but I was happy just to be out there for anyone to win it,” he says.
Kaitlyn George, a senior on the bowling team, is also involved around campus as a resident assistant for Martin Hall, member of the Campus Activities Board and an employee at the Braves Fan Shop.
“I was shocked when my name got called out as the winner,” she says. “I was running against some amazing and involved people. So I was genuinely excited and amazed to hear my name called. I am grateful that my family was able to drive up and see me walk for homecoming court.”
Both winners have called Ottawa University home for the last four years and plan to continue to do so as they both will pursue a master’s program after graduating. Winning homecoming royalty solidifies that the crown fits perfectly on these two who are a great representation of Ottawa University students.
