Being home is great and all. But back in Ottawa, I didn’t have as many distractions as I do here. I have chores to do here now. Everyone has their part in making sure that our house stays clean. I’m constantly doing little projects that my mom doesn’t have time for because she works most of the day. One big thing that distracts me is my games.
I’m a gamer, no doubt about it. I’m not mad that I am, because it’s something that I am passionate about and enjoy doing… maybe just a little bit too much. With our classes being online and not in a classroom setting, our teachers can’t see what we’re doing if we don’t have our cameras or microphones on. I was good about turning them on when we first started but now that I’ve settled in on how things work, I am either on my phone playing on things or even playing games on my console. This doesn’t have to happen in class either. Since I only had one class on Wednesday, I hopped on my console and continued to play for a good 14-15 hours straight.
Did I have homework that I could’ve done? Yeah sure, but there’s always tomorrow, right? These are the distractions I’m talking about. If I was back in Ottawa, I could do the same things, sure. But I’m surrounded by other people and I have other things to do with them. Things like practice or just hanging out with them. I don’t think I ever played my games for that length of time back in Ottawa.
So we can see how being home can cause distractions. I’m sure others have examples of this too and could relate to my story. The best advice I could give myself and others is just to pick a time during the day to get your work done and stick to it. I would do the same thing back in Ottawa. I knew that if I went to the library and got out of my room that I would get school work done. We only have one week of school left, so stay strong out there and get your work done!
