Q: What title would you prefer to have?
A: I prefer Jo Anne with my advisees and I prefer Ms. Gibson-Lucas or Ms. G-Lu with my students.

Q: What are you teaching?
A: I work in the Adawe LifePlan Center as an advisor and am teaching a First Year Seminar called “The Naked Roommate: Negotiating Space and Boundaries.”

Q: What made you want to come to Ottawa?
A: I began reading about the Adawe LifePlan Center at Ottawa University several years ago and became interested in the concept of helping students engage in their own development — academically, relationally, and spiritually. I was a first-generation college student. I would have benefited greatly from this type of service so I am honored to be a part of the Adawe LifePlan Center. This is a great support system for our students here at OU.

Q: Where did you teach before coming to Ottawa?
A: I taught courses in interpersonal, intercultural, and organizational communication at Baker University. Before that, I was a Staff Development Trainer for the State of Kansas.

Q: Where did you go to college?
A: I received my Master’s degree in Communication Studies from the University of Kansas and my undergraduate degree in English from the University of Central Missouri.

Q: What is something you like to do in your free time?
A: I enjoy making videos with my sock puppet, Mr. Socky.

Q: If you were stuck on an island and could only bring three things, what would you bring?
A: A cruise ship with plenty of people, food and Code Red Mountain Dew.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you travel and why?
A: Any place hosting the Olympics. The energy would be awesome.

Q: What’s your favorite food?
A: My mother’s meatloaf.

Q: What’s your favorite book?
A: Any book by Mark Twain.

Q: What’s an interesting fact about you?
A: I have a mannequin named Nadine.

Q: Anything else you would like to add?
A: Nadine is a good listener.
