The word “feminist” is often labeled as a man-hating, bra-burning, whiney brat. In today’s world, feminists have developed a tarnished reputation.
Often, outsiders overlook the main goal a feminist has in mind: equal treatment between men and women. This does not mean women want to be treated better than men; they just want to be treated as the same in some aspects.
Now, it is fully understood that men and women are not completely equal. There are many differences between men and women, and some of those differences inhibit equal treatment. Generally speaking, men and women should be treated equally.
Throughout history, women have been granted many more rights than they started out with at the founding of this great country. However, there is still more to be accomplished.
For instance, we have yet to see a woman president. Many argue they do not feel that a woman should be president for various reasons. The most common reason is that women are too emotional and would act on a whim, rather than thinking decisions out using reason.
I believe America is scared at the thought of a woman in the Oval Office because a woman would not be manipulated by the rest of the government. She would be prone to stick with what she wants to accomplish and refuse to take no as an answer.
Sarah Palin is a very important character in the fight for women’s rights. Although many people dislike Palin, set aside her political beliefs, and I admire the woman. She knows what she believes, and she stands up for it regardless of the hate mail and criticism. I don’t know many people who would put themselves in the public spotlight and be able to assert their beliefs, knowing not everyone will be happy with them.
It is easy to see women face more criticism than men. If a woman has sexual relations with a great deal of men, she is seen as a slut, but if a man has sexual relations with a great deal of women, he is marveled at and seen as cool. Women are judged more harshly than men are in many aspects of their lives.
From a religious stand point, many argue that Eve ate the fruit first, and from there they say women don’t deserve equal treatment. However, Adam was the feeble-minded man that followed Eve. Why is he treated better?
