Lady Brave Outside Hitter Makes History

Ottawa University senior Kristen Hendrickson made history August 28, when she became the first Lady Brave volleyball player ever to tally 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career.

Hendrickson earned her 1,000th kill against Kansas Wesleyan University back in 2011. Wednesday night, Hendrickson earned her 1000th career dig against Haskell University in Lawrence, Kansas.

“Any career record is a great accomplishment, but to be the mark of excellence in two areas of the game as Kristen has been speaks volumes to the impact she has had on the volleyball program during her time at Ottawa,” said head coach Tom Symons.

As a freshman, Hendrickson, who is from Ottawa, Kansas, was one of three Lady Braves to play in all 35 matches and 131 sets. She led the team in kills with 419 and tallied 365 digs. In both her sophomore and junior seasons, she earned First Team All-KCAC honors.

Going into her senior season, Hendrickson is ranked fourth in career digs at Ottawa University, fifth in career service aces (120), third all-time in a single match in kills (28), fourth in single season kills (419 in 2009) and second in career attack attempts (3,191).

“Reaching milestones like these is not a fluke,” said Symons. “It takes work when no one is watching and never settling for where you are at. Kristen takes these two traits to heart.”
