Braves Television brings campus to life via video

Smile, you’re on Braves
TV.

Ottawa University has its own social media in the form of Braves Television, a new campaign on campus designed to promote student culture, academics and activities.

Annie Noll, social media specialist, was hired to jump-start and maintain the campaign. Noll has assembled eight OU students to videotape their everyday lives and organize special events.

Braves TV videos are displayed on OU’s Facebook fanpage, YouTube and Twitter.

“Ottawa’s a small school, but with the power of the Internet we can show how seriously cool it is.” Noll said.

Cody Griffis, sophomore, shoots and edits videos. He notes that it’s more about showing the personal aspect of student life to potential students rather than advertising for the university.

“It’s in the prototype stage now,” Griffis said. “We cover academics and sports, but it’s definitely more about the personal workings in student life.”

So far their efforts have been met with a welcome response. Blogger Kris McDonald of the Lawrence Journal-World commended OU for its ambitious media efforts with
limited resources by its conception of Braves TV.

Zech King, junior, has high hopes for the group and involvement on campus.

“We’re trying to do a little bit of everything, and it’s not just for potential students.” King said.

Upcoming projects include a campus photo that will be taken of, hopefully, the entire OU student body. The photo shoot will take place on April 22 at 12:30 p.m. on People’s Bank Field.
