With the season reaching its end, the Braves cross country team feels optimistic about next year.
“Having such a young team allows us to have room to improve,” junior Ethan Van Zant said. “The potential we possess will allow us to go farther next year.”
The men and women teams have 13 runners each, none of which are seniors.
Sophomore MaKayla Wilkins said she thinks the team that will return next year can do big things, given what they did this year.
“I think next season we will be the team that’s up there holding the 2013 conference champs poster. We have a good shot and were moving up every year,” Wilkins said. “This year we got third, last year we got fourth so next year we’re going to get first. We just have to keep pushing each other and running like we know how to.”
Van Zant said the conference meet may not have gone as well for the teams as they hoped.
“Conference could have went better,” Van Zant said. “However, our course is very challenging to prepare for.”
This year the team also overcame many injuries.
“This season we had a lot of injuries and a lot of people out for long periods of times,” Wilkins said. “We need to work on staying healthy.”
