The Pi Kappa Delta Tournament is the oldest and some argue that it’s the most prestigious national forensics honorary in the country.
This is a regional tournament that will take place Oct. 16th through Oct. 18th on the Ottawa University campus.
The tournament is for regional collegiate speech and debate teams.
Students from all around the Midwest and South will come here to compete in several different events.
“Students from around the country will be competing,” Ryan Louis, director of forensics, said.
“Ottawa’s forensics team will have the unique opportunity to host and compete at the tournament. We’re looking at hosting anywhere between 50 and 100 students,” Lewis said.
The students will be in almost every public building located on the OU campus.
Those who are competing should hang out in the same places as students over the weekend.
The events will be happening simultaneously, so each classroom and conference space will see action.
“There will be three types of debates and 11 individual events offered, ranging from interpretations to memorized and limited preparation platform speeches,” Louis said.
The team has been preparing for the competition for the last few weeks.
“In the tournament I’ll be performing an original piece of drama interpretation and also another piece on prose interpretation,” Lee Nave, sophomore, said.
“Also I’ll be doing five rounds of parliamentary debates with my partner and two rounds of impromptu speeches alone,” Nave said.
Anyone who wants to attend the event can come and support. The majority of the rooms will have a judge and six competitors.
“I will be participating in prose, impromptu and debate,” Leah Frey, junior, said.
“Prose is a short story basically, impromptu is a limited prep event where your given a quotation and in two minutes you will be judged on a speech from it,” Frey said.
