Newspaper makes improvements

The Campus newspaper leaders are hoping to make some changes this year.

Senior Amanda Roseberry was named editor-in-chief of at the end of last semester and senior Cyrus Oliver was named webmaster.

“I’m looking forward to building camaraderie among the staff,” Roseberry said.

In addition to team building, Roseberry said the staff spent portions of the summer working on a new design for both the print and web edition of the paper.

“We’re hoping to have more easy reads,” Roseberry said. “Those are things
people want to read.”

Roseberry said the newspaper staff will be working closely with the web staff to be more responsive to campus news.

“We want to make our site more media focused,” Oliver said.

Oliver said the new design will feature slideshows, podcasts and blogs in addition to weekly updates.

“We want to make it a more interactive environment for readers,” Oliver said.

“Updates to both the print and web edition of The Campus hopefully will make it a more student driven newspaper,” Jenalea Myers, adviser of the newspaper, said.

“I’d like to see The Campus be student and faculty’s main source for information for things going on around campus,” she said.

Myers added that a new faculty member will join the staff as the Web site adviser.

“The Web site is going to be a lot more active this year,” she said. “You can expect to see updates more frequently.”

Roseberry said she’s hoping the updates not only encourage people to pick up The Campus, but also to contact staff members with feedback and ideas.
