I have always hoped that my life would someday be a musical.
If anyone knows me, they know breaking into random song and dance is a forte of mine.
I think singing and songs can make anyone happy; it just has to be the right tune at the right time.
When I first heard of the show “Glee” I thought a television show would never do justice to a musical.
There’s no way that there would be enough story line (or singing – for me) in 60 minutes time.
I’m glad to say I was proven wrong. As an avid ‘Gleek,’ I haven’t missed an episode, own the DVD of the first season, both soundtracks and digital video recorded each episode and re-runs.
The cast of the show has actual talent – which I’m highly jealous of – and it’s displayed in tunes ranging from pop to rap to even show tunes.
Remakes have never been a favorite of mine in the song category, and I still think Whitney Houston’s version of ‘I Will Always Love You’ is the only one worth mentioning, but with funky twists on classic songs,
“Glee” has taught me to appreciate the remake. I never knew I could like ‘Bust a Move’ as much as I enjoy ‘Defying Gravity’ until the cast remade each.
After just one pilot episode six months before all the others aired, I was afraid my destined show would be canceled. But “Glee” fever is going strong with the second season started Tuesday night.
“Glee” isn’t just for the music maniacs out there. It really has an enjoyable plot line and addresses issues and tackles topics that many shows don’t. Though the show makes some lightness of serious issues, it does have a sentimental value added to each subject. Although the show takes place in highschool,
the issues transcend those four years.
I’ve grown a full appreciation for the show and still hold aspirations to have my own musical life. But, for now, I’ll just have to settle for weekly “Glee.”
