Softball team takes KCAC title

Coach Jay Kahnt said that his team is starting to play the best ball.

The Ottawa University Lady Braves have a current season record of 23 wins and 7 losses, and are 15-1 in conference.

“We won the conference regular season championship on Wednesday after traveling to Bethany,” Kahnt, head softball coach said. “It is important that we keep getting better daily and make sure we are still playing our best next week.”

Kahnt attributes the team’s success to his talented players.

“We have the most speed in the conference and have used that to our advantage and are in the top 5 in the nation in stolen bases,” Kahnt said. “That has been a big key to our success.”

Sophomore Lindsey Adams said that the improvements span further than talent.

“We as a team have improved in our team chemistry and offense,” Adams said.

The Lady Braves have had some players recognized as KCAC Player of the week.

“I was very honored to hear that I was player of the week,” Myah Sprew, sophomore, said.

“This is the first time for me and it’s nice to know that I am doing what I can to help my team win games.”

According to Kahnt, the team’s goal is to win the regular season and tournament championships.

“We wanted to wrap the number one seed, which would put us in the best position heading into the tournament next week,” Kahnt said. “That has been the goal all year.”
