Theta Phi Alpha says Goodbye

After spring break, Theta Phi Alpha was altered by some heartbreaking news: It is no longer a sorority at Ottawa University. The decision came when the chair of Greek life came to a difficult decision that Ottawa University did not have enough members in this sorority to remain a chapter. Members are still fighting for the chance to get their sorority back in future years.

Theta Phi Alpha had 20-plus members and continued to recruit more students to join Greek life. It had success at recruiting events such as meet and greets, smores night, movie night, school formals, etc. At these events, you would witness all of Theta Phi Alpha members help set up, recruit new students and explain the benefits of being in Greek life and becoming part of the Theta Phi Family.

Senior Nadia Chorny has been in the sorority since its beginning in 2018-2019. She has spent countless hours at meetings and been involved in hosting events and tabeling for new members.

Chorny says, “Theta Phi Alpha was filled with lifelong sisters and best friends that I will cherish forever.”

The members of Theta Phi continue to meet together as friends and sisters, whether the sorority is still active or not.

“Theta Phi Alpha was a place where you can be yourself and not worry about being judged by other people,” she says.

The sorority at Ottawa University was more than Greek life to many of the members; it was their way of life.
