Tuition at Ottawa University has become a common topic of conversation around campus.
We all knew that coming to a private university was going to be expensive, but a lot of people are beginning to wonder where their money is actually going.
I hate seeing how much money rules our lives, especially when it comes to education. I think we’ve all heard the saying, “Education should not be a debt sentence.”
I couldn’t agree with this more. A lot of people are more worried about keeping up with their expenses than actually focusing on school.
How come tuition has been raised ONCE AGAIN? It’s been raised every year since my freshman year. Believe it or not, tuition used to be below $30,000 three years ago, during my freshman year, even with all the other expenses.
At first I thought that it was being raised because of the new buildings that have been added to campus, but then I found out the money used for those buildings was a donation. So, where is my parent’s money going?
A plethora of students have been wondering this. It’s frustrating that it’s such a mystery. I can’t help but wonder.
Why is our university president receiving an unnecessary bonus? He’s already a millionaire.
Why are we being charged so much for food that isn’t even good?
Why is the school hiring adjuncts as teachers? With such high expenses, shouldn’t they be able to afford prestigious individuals and professors? You’d think.
Now, I’m not just trying to call OU out and make this university look bad. I’m sure students around the world are struggling with this exact same issue.
But why does it have to be such an issue? I realize that scholarships are available, as are federal aid and loans. But not all students qualify to receive such aid.
One of the main reasons people don’t continue their education is because they can’t afford it. How sad is that?
So what really is more important? Education or money? Many people would say education. But, if education is more important, then why is it so expensive?
I realize I’ve asked a lot of questions but like I said, I can’t help but wonder. It’s time that we students at Ottawa University get an explanation.
I’ll say it again; I’m not trying to make the university look bad. I just want some answers, and I speak for many individuals here at OU.
