With the start of the Major League Soccer (MLS) playoffs only a few days away, it is safe to say this is going to be one of the most unpredictable postseason’s the league has ever seen. I am going to break down the top three teams who have the best shot of lifting the MLS cup trophy on November 10th.
1. LAFC
Coming into just their second season as a franchise, no one expected LA to dominate this much. They have tons of fire power on offense surrounding winger Carlos Vela. Vela recently broke the single season goal scoring record and shows no sign of slowing down. If Vela stays in this form, and is supported by his back line, I wouldn’t be surprised to see LAFC being crowned champions.
2. NYCFC
NYC is heading into the postseason after having their best regular season in club history. Much like LAFC, they are known for their ability to score goals and create chances offensively. They scored a total of 63 goals during the season. After finishing first in the eastern conference, this team is heading to the playoffs with a lot of confidence and are expecting to go far.
3. Atlanta United FC
Atlanta is the MLS defending champs and are looking to take the crown once again. With their leading goal scorer Joseph Martinez in top form, it’s hard to imagine anyone stopping their attack. Atlanta is also very strong defensively and their midfield players can create multiple opportunities to score. Atlanta has a very good shot at coming out on top for the second year in a row.
Overall, the 2019 MLS playoffs should be one to remember. Every team coming into the postseason believes they have a chance to win it all. We can all expect each game to be filled with intensity and passion. It will be interesting to see what team will be celebrating as champions in November.
