Receiving KCAC Pitcher of the Week twice during this season so far, OU softball player Rebekah Clinton is working toward attaining a KCAC championship.

Clinton, a 23-year-old senior, is a Secondary Education major with a concentration in History.

The Ponca City, Oklahoma, native started playing softball at the age of 7.

“My church had a softball team. They needed a little girl, and then I made the team,” she says.

When she was younger she played travel ball and junior high ball. In high school, not only did she play softball, but she was also a member of the swim team. Clinton’s event was to swim the 200 Meters Freestyle, but it was just to stay in shape. In her sophomore year, she was named most improved swimmer on her team.

After being involved with both sports, Clinton says she stuck with softball because, “I knew that I could get a scholarship in college.”

Before attending Ottawa University, she went to school at Mississippi Valley State University, which is a small Division I school down in Itta Bena, Mississippi.

Clinton played in Mississippi for three years where she ended her freshman and sophomore year season with fourth place finishes in conference.

“Last year, I was looking to transfer, and I put a three hours ratio from my hometown — and Ottawa was in it,” she says.

She apparently made the right choice with picking OU as the school to continue her athletic career, which has resulted in being awarded Pitcher of the Week twice during this season so far.

The number on her uniform has a special meaning for Clinton. It’s not every time that players get to choose the number they wear, but she was able to. The number 31 holds tribute to her dad who wore the same number as a football player.

Her pre-game routine or superstition is to wear a “sparkly headband.”

One fun fact about her is that not only does she loves cats, but her first word as a baby was “meow.”

When she’s not playing softball, she usually is spending time with family or friends.

Thomas Rhett and Tim McGraw top her favorite artists and “Titanic” and “Twilight” are her favorite movies. Ribs are her favorite food.

As a future goal, she wants to be a special education teacher and coach softball in high school in either Kansas or Oklahoma.
