Ottawa’s very own softball player Mica Michaud has become Twitter famous for helping serve the team Subway after an away game.
The Ottawa Softball team traveled to Baldwin City for a double-header over Spring Break. After the Braves succeeded with dual victories, the team went to the local Subway for dinner. The Subway only had one worker when the team of 20-plus girls came walking in.
To avoid chaos by forcing the lone worker to serve everyone, junior outfielder Michaud stepped up. She had the experience due to at working at Subway for three years prior to coming to Ottawa University.
Current technology sent Michaud’s image of her making subs for the team in full uniform around the world instantly. Senior Anna Morgan and sophomore Sydney Lehr’s tweets gained the most response.
Morgan and Lehr had a combined 37 retweets and 117 likes on their original tweets. Then the popular “NAIA Baseball Probz” Twitter account started to tweet the pictures and it gained even more of a following. Their main tweet about it currently has 88 retweets and 177 and is still the pinned tweet on the account.
“For the first 30 minutes my phone wouldn’t stop going off,” Michaud said. “I thought that was funny, but then for some reason I felt overwhelmed because my phone seriously didn’t stop going off.”
Michaud gained followers after the event, and multiple people from all over the nation were sending her direct messages about it.
“When we got back to school that week, multiple people were asking me about it or were making jokes,” Michaud added.
She even got recognized in Lawrence, Kansas, as the Subway girl. She went to Freddy’s with some friends and then noticed that people were staring at her. She then heard one of them whisper, “Is that the Subway girl?”
