OU kicks off Sesquicentennial year

Thursday, January 22 began the string of events throughout the year of 2015 that marks the 150th anniversary of Ottawa University.

Students, staff, and faculty all attended a chapel service, where the first 150 students received a t-shirt.

The service included performances by the Ottawa University choir, President Eichner going through the history of the Ottawa tribe and the university, and a closing with the Alma Mater song.

Attendees were then invited to come to Gibson Student Center for desserts, and to view a slideshow of old photographs of OU students and events.

Students were also encouraged to join the “My 150 Challenge”, for which they have to create a video showing 150 of something.

An example video made by the cheerleading and dance teams was shown, as the teams performed 150 stunts (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nm9AgRzz6OU).

The winner will receive $150 cash and their video will be shown on the university ‘s social media sites.

Information on the sesquicentennial celebration throughout the upcoming year can be found on the university’s website, as well as on posters around campus.
