Winter weather makes driving difficult

As of 3 p.m., AAA Kansas has received 366 calls for service Wednesday, making the total of 659 service calls since the snow storm began Tuesday. Topeka accounts for 105 of Wednesday’s calls, while 99 have come from the Wichita area, with 32 in Lawrence. Outside of those three communities, AAA Kansas has received 130 other calls in Kansas. Since winter began on December 21, AAA Kansas has responded to over 11,600 calls for service. Compared to last winter at this date, call volume is up nearly 9 percent, a testament to what kind of winter drivers are experiencing.

About 30-35 percent of calls Wednesday have been for winch-outs (vehicles stuck in the snow requiring extrication), with 30 percent of those requiring towing. In addition, AAA Kansas is beginning to have an increase in calls for jump starts. With the forecasted cold weather, they anticipate those calls to continue to increase.
