Alright, alright, I’m sorry for the wait!
See what I mean about not revealing the date and how it creates eagerness?
Well it’s time to plan out where you are going to take this person you admire so much and what you are going to do. The random meaningless questions that you have been asking can be very useful here. You might have picked up something that they are extremely interested in, let’s say Jazz. Find away to mix jazz music into your date whether it be listening to it in the car on the way there or going to a Jazz house.
We are in Ottawa Kansas a small town of roughly 12,600 people according the 2012 US census. We have two Dairy Queens, McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy’s, Applebee’s and some other small eateries. Hopefully you don’t plan on sticking around town for your date.
Lawrence Kansas on the other hand is a little bigger and is one of the top places in the nation for music. It is a prime location for a date.
Utilize the cities website to find out what is going on. Even though you might think you are smart and creative, trust me these websites are a savior when it comes to finding things to do. Lawrence.com is the cities website which lists all the events going on that day in order.
The website will provide dates, times, descriptions, prices, and other important information. You can literally just make little papers with names of places on that list, put it in a hat, choose one at random and go.
Last week I went on a date and kept my spending to a low of 20$. It is simple and easy, you just have to try.
I took my lovely date to Dempsy’s Pub located 623 Vermont St., Lawrence KS. It is a block down from Mass St. which provides a great pre dinner or post dinner stroll area.
Dempsy’s has a great selection of burgers that range from 7$-11$ which is an amazing price for the taste of the burger. I highly recommend eating here whether on a date or just looking for a great new place to eat. They also have truffle fries which are out of this world. According to their website, http://www.dempseysburgerpub.com, their truffle fries are “house cut and tossed in freshly grated parmesan cheese and parsley.”
My date and I shared a basket of truffle fries which came out to be a little under five dollars.
Like I said earlier, Mass St. is only a block away and is a great location to just talk and walk which I decided to take full advantage of. While walking down the street and talking we stumbled upon a musician who played the saxophone. This was totally free and the music helped ease the first date awkwardness.
This date occurred on Sunday during Kansas Universities fall break which meant that everything looked abandoned. Even on Sundays there is something that you can do. During the week you can find an assortment of musicians, magicians and street performers alike.
It was around ten o’clock, which meant I had now been on the date for about two hours and by any standard could suffice as a complete date but I did not want the night to end there.
Royal Crest Lanes is located on Iowa St. south of W. 9th St. Bowling is a great place to take a date. A little friendly competition is good as long as you don’t take it too seriously. The break you get when one person is bowling is also a great time to make sure that your breath doesn’t stink, shoes aren’t untied, zipper is up and maybe even scratch that itch on your butt that has been bothering you all night.
Royal Crest lanes also has killer deals. According to their website, http://royalcrestbowl.com, Monday and Wednesday are 1$ per game, Tuesday is buy one get one free, and Thursday is ladies bowl free! Guys if you need a date idea for Thursday you are in luck!
Since my date was on Sunday I ended up paying 13$ per person per game and 3$ per person for shoes. By the way she kicked my butt…
The date ended after bowling and it was a great one indeed. I spent a total of 38$ including taxes and tips which is a great price considering all the things we ended up doing. That is just one of the many dates that you can have in Lawrence which is easy and inexpensive.
Until next time, keep on improving your Game Plan.
