Scavenger hunt shuts down campus

Suspicious packages that shut down the OU campus early Thursday morning are leftovers from a scavenger hunt.

“The boxes were empty and were part of a scavenger hunt last night by some students and they forgot to take the boxes with them,” Undersheriff Steve Lunger said.

The first package was discovered around 6 a.m. near Tauy Jones Hall and the campus was evacuated around 7 a.m.

Students and faculty were advised to stay off campus until further notice. Bennett Hall residents were evacuated by resident assistants and led to Brown Hall.

At 10:30 a.m. the campus was cleared and open to students, faculty and staff.
