Ottawa University’s pro bono tax clinic has opened, serving OU students, faculty, staff and their immediate families. Due to changes in IRS regulations of tax service providers, Ottawa University is no longer able to provide services to the greater Franklin County region.
Accounting students, under the supervision of Dr. Marylou DeWald, will provide free preparation of income tax forms as part of an annual service-learning project within its accounting department. The tax preparation service is particularly designed to benefit those in the low-moderate income range and students.
Forms included in the service are federal forms 1040A, 1040-EZ, and Kansas associated forms, including Homestead tax and Food and Sales tax forms. Tax preparation is not offered for individual returns requiring a Schedule C, D, E, or F; for small business returns; or for partnership or corporation returns.
The tax clinic will be held in the Myers Library. Those wanting to make use of the service may come to the library during the following hours: Mondays: 3-5 p.m., Tuesdays: 11 a.m.-1:45 p.m., Wednesdays: 11:45 a.m.-1:45 p.m. and Thursdays: 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m.
