Technology not always necessary

Computers and technology have become an integral part of daily life.

Most jobs require some level of computer interaction and technological skill.’

In order to incorporate these functions into daily education, teachers may wish to direct their attention toward technology in the classroom.

Using a projector is a way professors might use technology in the classroom.

‘Ristic uses the projector in the classroom for note taking and it really helps out his students,’ Kat Burns, first-year, said. ‘It personally helps me a lot in case I miss something he said I can still understand what he’s talking about through power point presentation.’

However, some teachers still use overhead projectors or even a chalkboard or whiteboard.’

This could be due to the fact that some of the classrooms are not properly equipped for a computer hookup.’ ‘ ‘ ‘

Douglas Holub is one of the teachers that still uses the overhead and whiteboard, but it’s not because he doesn’t know how to use the technology.

‘I would use a projector for power points instead of having to write everything on the whiteboard, but having the whiteboard is still nice to have so I can write out equations for my classes’, he said.

Ward Science only has’ two projectors on wheels that can be carted around.’ With classes all at the same time, this can leave it difficult to find a projector when needed.

Professors then have to switch off or sign up for a projector in advance.

‘It’s not a big hassle for me I am an easy guy if someone needs to use the projector I can easily pass it up and still teach my class without a projector,’ Holub said.

However, that is not always the case in the buildings around campus.’ Most of the classrooms in the administration building have projectors built into them.

Sophomore Brenton Byrnes still notices that even though these rooms may be equipped with proper technology that it might not always be used.

‘In one of my classes, the professor doesn’t even use technology often,’ he said.’ ‘When we take notes she just talks to us and it’s really difficult to write and listen. I really wish she would use a power point when she talks about the books that we read.’

While technology may or may not be available for certain classes, it seems to be up to the professor to decide if it’s necessary to conduct class with or without it.
