What can we expect out of the Big 12 this season?’
It seems every week there is a surprise, and honestly there is no clear-cut front-runner.’ I see Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri and Texas as big players in the championship race this year.
The Kansas Jayhawks are in first place early on in conference play.’ They have only lost one game so far, but it seems like they are having trouble finding a way to get all of their playmakers the ball.’
The Jayhawks are so deep, however, it’ll be a challenge for them to get around so many egos.
The Texas Longhorns showed they are beatable all of last week.’ They lost first to the ninth ranked Kansas State Wildcats, who are pretty difficult to beat at home, so that first loss wasn’t much of an upset.
The loss to the slumping UConn Huskies probably caught many off guard, including the Longhorns.’ After controlling most of what was supposed to be their rebound game, Texas gave up 13 unanswered points in the second half, surrendering the lead and the game.’
The Missouri Tigers will be somewhat of a sleeper, even though they already beat the Wildcats in a game earlier this season. They don’t have the likes of DeMarre Carroll or Leo Lyons this season, but the Tigers have a lot of young talent they are building around with the up-tempo game they play.
Kansas State has played strong this year, jumping the rankings to be as high as No. 9 last week. If they wouldn’t have lost to Oklahoma State, they would have most likely been a top five team after beating Texas.
So who will win the Big 12 regular season title?’ I think KU will pull it together in the end of the season to win its sixth consecutive regular season title, but you can’t be too sure.
This season will have more than enough drama heading into the end of the season, and anything could happen.
