Many students receive refund checks a few weeks into a new semester. Once the money is in hand it’s time for students to decide on what they should spend them on.
‘I usually put them in the bank or spend them on a big purchase,’ sophomore Lucas Straub said. ‘I just bought an Xbox 360.’
Refund checks often vary in size so a large purchase is impossible, while putting the money away hardly seems worth it.
‘We ended up using our money for McDonald’s, one night on nearly 85 chicken sandwiches,’ sophomore Cody Rhyne and freshman Matthew Pritchett said.
Some students realize it is their loan money for school though, and that it would be better off if it was saved or paying for their education.
‘I actually bought a new electric guitar when I received mine a few months ago,’ , freshman Sam Warshawsky said. ‘But I did put the rest into savings.’
However, more imminent changes are needed before a savings plan in college.’
‘I was going to pay off my interest on unsubsidized loans, but I felt since my car didn’t have a hood it was more important,’ freshman Cody Knapik said.
Often times, students receive help from their parents in paying for college. They feel that it may be better off in the right hands.
‘I believe it is not rightfully my money, and would be better off if it went to my mom, instead of me spending it on pointless items,’ freshman Tyler Hazensaid.
