He’s starting a ‘New Christian Values’ petition around campus, involved with Bible studies and is trying to finish his degree at the same time.
Senior Eric Zuelke is a religion major from Newton who is finishing his last couple of weeks on campus, planning to work as a youth pastor and perhaps some day as a senior pastor.
“He seems to study faith closely and it shows in his character,” junior Caj Kueffer said.
He created this petition because he noticed that the University, while affiliated with the Baptist church, may not always hold up the values of the church.
“I believe that we have some good solid Christians on campus, and have some of those Christians in power, but I feel like as Christians we have also been too passive in our life here on this campus,” he said.
Because Eric feels that students may feel pressured to keep quiet about faith that this may lead to contradicting certain beliefs of the Christian faith.
Students have taken notice of this petition, and have high hopes that it will be successful on campus.
“I think if this happens, then there will be more academic freedom regardless of the differences in beliefs,” sophomore Charley Worthey said.
However, student participation is a big part in taking this group to the next level. More student involvement means getting the word out.
“A lot will depend on student participation. I’m excited about this but I don’t want to make any predictions,” freshman Tyler Hazen said.
