The Student Activities Connection is seeking more students to help plan campus activities.
Student Activities Connection used to be the Student Activities Force. Amanda Wadkins, Student Life Assistant, talked about the change.
“We wanted a new group, new look, fresh start,” she said.
The reboot is hoped to attract new students who are interested in working on student activities.
The advisors of the SAC are Amanda Wadkins and Lisa Thomsen, the Residential Life Director.
The purpose of the SAC is to get students involved in planning, organizing, and running of campus activites.
“They help promote it, they help plan it, they help run the actual show,” Wadkins said. SAC members would attend events such as McDonald’s nights and movie nights, and hand out the coupons and things.
Other responsibilities would include making sure that event staff have what they need throughout the event period, Wadkins said.
While the group has yet to have their first official meeting, new members have already been involved with implementing events plans.
Megan Bledsoe, a Freshman Biology Education major, has only done a few activities so far. “We’ve put on the movies and homecoming and that’s about it,” she said.
Another new member of SAC is Kelccey Medina, a sophomore and double major in Human Services and Recreation Administration. “I really hope to get a lot more people involved with what the school has to offer activity-wise,” she said.
Amanda Wadkins mentioned the future benefits for students who join the group. “It’s a good resume builder,” she said. “There’s a lot of responsibility that weighs on their shoulders when they’re in this group.”
Megan Bledsoe is looking forward to gaining new skills from her time on the SAC. “I expect to broaden my leadership abilities, because I was really involved in my high school,” she said. “I also expect to learn how to be organized.”
Kelccey Medina is hoping that it will improve her resume and ultimately open up Job opportunties. “I think it’s a great a program,” she said.
