Braving welcomes all students

What sounds better than strengthening your faith with people who are as passionate about it as you?

The annual Braving Discipleship is coming up at Ottawa University.

Braving is a weekend retreat where high school students from around the area come to campus to participate in activities that a planned by a committee.

Much preparation takes place to plan an event like this. A team that consists of Rev. Bud McCLuney, Chase Snyder, Clyde Kueffer and Brian Hutton meet once a week to discuss and appoint students to different areas of the retreat.

“We appoint the students who are here to help with everything and the students here at OU run everything,” said Clyde Kueffer.

Some of the activities that are planned for the weekend consist of: a community service project, a live band and small groups with different topics which include a Bible study.

“Our community service project is that we are going to make 150-200 meals for low income families throughout the community and then deliver them, so it’s going to be pretty cool,” Kueffer said.

The majority of Braving is student led and all are invited.?

“Anyone and everyone who wants to help are welcome to,” said Kueffer.

Many students here at OU also think that Braving Discipleship is a good event to have.
Freshman Julian Brown likes the idea of Braving.

“I am a very big fan of this event. It is more than just going to church and worshiping God. It is doing public service through God and by being friendly and kind. It’s about being good people.”

Students who don’t attend church regularly also feel that this would be a fun event to participate in.

“I don’t attend church on a regular basis but I think this would be an event that would be fun to participate in. It feels good to help other people who really need it. And being around people who are interested in the same thing seems really cool,” said sophomore Christopher Robertson.
