Mike McManemin, senior, saw elections as his chance to speak out.
“Personally, I saw a lot of the changes made this year, and felt that some things were good, while others should have stayed the same,” McManemin said. “This is the best way to get my voice heard.”
Though McMillian encourages students to become informed and involved with Senate, he notes that meetings are not always open.
“Some (meetings) are open,” McMillian said. “But it’s a must to check with the Senate President before coming and presenting.”
Sophomore Nino Straub also ran for Sophomore class representative. “I want to represent the class in every way I can to help them get what they need,” he said. This year, Senate along with Student Body president, Jason Beers, is working for change machines in each of the halls, ice machines in the union and to raise student acceptance.
“We will be discussing diversity with BSU and administrators; helping with events to increase tolerance,” McMillian said.
Along with helping to build the student body, Senate recently held elections in order to build on the organization itself.
“With upwards of 20 people emailing me about running, it was a good sign,” McMillian said.
Students voted Wednesday and Thursday on students according to class and residence hall or off campus students.
