The number of students at Ottawa University is expected to stay around the same as a year ago.
The fall 2008 semester brought in a total of 554 students.
Housing at OU has been bursting the past few years.
This year there are 345 students living in the dorms, all the dorms were close to being full at 90 percent capacity, with Bennett Hall being at 100 percent full.
This is a sign that the campus is growing and more students are interested in Ottawa University.
David Glaven, Resident Director of Bennett Hall said that everything went very smooth during movein.
“Everything was very well planned out which made move-in easy. The Resident Assistants were able to get in the rooms early to make sure everything was ready for the students,” Glaven said.
New Resident Director in Brown Hall, Thomas Pearson said “move-in is fun. It’s good to see all the new faces.”
Pearson said he expects the coming year to be a good and fun year to be living in Brown.
Freshman Tyler Hazen is living away from home for the first time. He will be calling Bennett his new home. He is excited to live with friends that he knew in high school.
“So far, I love living on my own. I think it will be a fun year,” Hazen said.
Hazen mentioned that move in was not as stressful as he thought it might be.
Many improvements and changes have been made to the dorms including whiteboards
on the dorm room doors in Brown , RAs will now check in guests at the front desk, new ping pong tables were added in Bennett and Brown, new TVs in dorm lobbies, and an exciting addition of Nintendo Wii game systems at all dorms that students can
check out.
“This year I hope to build more community and to create organized programs,” Glaven said.
Housing and enrollment numbers are not final, numbers will be available in September.
